It’s no secret that herbs for hair growth actually work.  These herbs not only promote and stimulate growth; they strengthen hair follicles, clean the scalp and reduce hair loss.  Yes, herbs help with natural hair growth, but they also help you to have healthy hair.

Three surprising herbs for hair growth are henna, stinging nettle and green tea.  Before you start any herbal program, you should consult your physician.  Herbs can be very productive remedies for hair growth.  But the side effects can outweigh the benefits in some cases.  So, be sure to check with a medical professional before you start taking herbs for natural hair growth.

Henna for Natural Hair Growth

Henna has been known as a natural hair color.  However, this herb for hair growth has been known to remedy hair loss and strengthen natural hair.  Extracted from the Lawsonia inermis tree, which grows in India and North Africa, henna is made by drying and grinding the stems and leaves.  The greenish powder can be mixed with other ingredients, like vinegar or lemon juice, to create various hues.

What exactly does this surprising herb do for hair growth?  Lawsone molecules found in henna actually penetrate the hair shaft and bind with the hair’s keratin, a strong protein.  So, as your natural hair grows with henna in it, the strands grow stronger with little chance of breaking.  Henna even cleanses the scalp of dandruff.

Henna must be applied directly to natural hair for several hours to reap its benefits.

Stinging Nettle for Natural Hair Growth

Stinging nettle is a finely toothed plant, rich in Vitamins A and C as well as calcium and iron.  Although there have been no specific clinical studies to prove it, research has shown that stinging nettle can help with hair loss.  Research has revealed that stinging nettle blocks two enzymes that cause hair loss.  It can stimulate the roots and hair growth.

This second of 3 herbs for hair growth can be applied externally as part of a hair rinse.  Stinging nettle also can be taken orally in capsule form or can be drank as a tea.

Green Tea for Natural Hair Growth

It is a powerful antioxidant.  It reduces cholesterol.  It promotes weight loss.  And, it is one of herbs for hair growth?  Green tea, like stinging nettle, has been known to block the enzymes that cause hair loss.  Drinking green tea or taking it as a pill extract can not only halt hair loss, but also facilitate re-growth.

Green Tea Library wrote about a study that was conducted where green tea was given to mice.  These mice had spontaneous hair loss on the neck, head and dorsal area.  There were two groups of mice.  For six months, one group was given green tea catechins in their drinking water, and the other group was given plain drinking water.  During those six months, 33 percent of the mice that drank green tea experienced significant hair regrowth, compared to the other group that only received plain water.

Green tea also is a good source of panthenol, a B vitamin known to strengthen hair and manage split ends. It can be found in shampoos and conditioners.
